Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this position is to complete electrical projects by supervising installations; resolving electrical and design issues. Maintains electrical systems by establishing and enforcing preventive and on-going maintenance, and scheduling repairs; coordinating shut-downs and installations.

Responsibilities / Duties

Core duties and responsibilities

  • HV, MV and LV cable termination
  • Installation of MCC ( Motor Control Center)
  • Installation of MV Switchgear
  • Installation of bus-bar, conduit, cable trays, and cable
  • Panel Continuity test
  • MV Cable Insulation resistance test
  • Installation of field instrument
  • Termination of instrument cables
  • Interrogation of intelligent electronic Devices(Relays)
  • Installation of Computer Console
  • Installation of UPS and transformers.
  • Wiring of premises/buildings and inspection as per applicable codes
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work collaboratively to provide high quality and seamless service
  • Review accuracy of work reports
  • Estimate and order supplies and materials needed by Electricians

Administration

  • Maintaining site foreman’s log & site reports
  • Preparation of daily production records
  • Reporting on work progress
  • Daily time keeping & reporting

Quality Control

  • On-site assessment prior to commencing work to ensure that the job is ready, and addressing any concerns
  • Overseeing the execution of the work, including quality and production, ensuring that the crew works to job specifications and follows the plans
  • Inspecting and measuring completed work
  • Application and compliance with SANS,Builidng and Fire Codes of practice

Employee Relations

  • Recognizing, addressing and resolving issues/problems among/between crew members
  • Promoting, supporting and facilitating teamwork and harmony between all crew members by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all crew members

Planning and Scheduling

  • Translating general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for the crew
  • Working with the crew to overcome work challenges
  • Periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production

Leadership and Supervision

  • Communicating the job to and with the crew
  • Recognizing, addressing and resolving issues/problems among/between crew members
  • Maintaining work standards and outlining behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity
  • Applying the principles of workplace respect on site
  • Ensuring crew compliance with project policies and procedures
  • Ensuring crew compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Managing work scheduled and keeping track of employee attendance

Safety

  • Knowing and understanding the requirements of the OHSA and construction regulation
  • Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with the OHSA, and company safety policies and procedures
  • Facilitate mandatory safety tool box meetings
  • Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments
  • Participating in safety/incident investigations
  • Ensuring that vehicle and equipment checks are carried out

Qualifications & Experience / Minimum Requirements

  • NTC 4 Trade Test in Electrical Engineering
  • 10 Years’ experience in MV/LV Projects (Building and Reticulation)
  • Basic IR, including relevant labour legislation
  • Valid Driver’s license is essential

Travel: Site based
